At HESDInitiatives, we are committed to supporting the growth and sustainability of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Niger State. We believe that empowering local businesses, especially women-owned enterprises, is key to fostering economic growth and community development. As part of our initiatives to promote MSMEs, we organized a series of impactful activities during the 2024 International Women’s Day celebration. These activities not only showcased the remarkable products and services from local businesses but also provided vital support through workshops, clinics, and outreach programs.
Walk for Fitness: A Healthy Start to Empowerment
We kicked off the day with a Walk for Fitness, a community event aimed at promoting health and wellness while also raising awareness about the significance of MSMEs in driving local economies. The walk brought together entrepreneurs, business owners, and community members in a unified display of support for women in business and the promotion of small-scale enterprises.
The walk also served as a platform for networking, where participants had the opportunity to engage with other local business owners, share experiences, and discuss how they can collaborate to strengthen the MSME ecosystem in Niger State.
Business Workshop: Equipping Entrepreneurs with Knowledge
Following the walk, we organized an intensive business workshop tailored to equip MSME owners with practical knowledge and tools to grow and sustain their businesses. The workshop featured industry experts and successful entrepreneurs who shared insights on:
- Business Planning and Strategy
- Financial Management and Access to Funding
- Marketing and Branding Techniques
- Digital Transformation for MSMEs
The workshop was designed to address the specific challenges faced by local businesses, especially those run by women, and to provide actionable strategies to overcome those challenges. The participants left with enhanced business acumen and a clear roadmap to take their businesses to the next level.
Free Medical Outreach: Supporting Entrepreneurs’ Well-being
Recognizing that the well-being of entrepreneurs is essential to the success of their businesses, we organized a Free Medical Outreach during the event. Local healthcare professionals provided essential health services, including free medical check-ups, consultations, and treatments. This initiative aimed to ensure that entrepreneurs and their families have access to healthcare, enabling them to stay healthy and focused on growing their businesses.
By promoting health alongside business development, we hope to create an environment where entrepreneurs can thrive in all aspects of their lives.

Business Clinic: One-on-One Consultations for MSMEs
We also set up a Business Clinic, providing participants with the opportunity to receive personalized, one-on-one consultations with business experts and mentors. These sessions were designed to address specific challenges and concerns that MSME owners may face, such as:
- Overcoming operational hurdles
- Improving product quality
- Streamlining business processes
- Identifying new markets and customers
Through this clinic, MSME owners received tailored advice that helped them address immediate business needs and plan for long-term growth. It was a highly interactive session that fostered personal connections and built trust between the entrepreneurs and their mentors.
Product Exhibition: Showcasing Local Talent
The highlight of the event was the Product Exhibition, where MSME owners showcased their innovative products and services. This exhibition provided a unique platform for local entrepreneurs to display their craftsmanship and creativity, helping them connect with potential customers, partners, and investors.
From handmade crafts to locally produced food items, beauty products, and textiles, the exhibition highlighted the diverse range of talent and innovation present in Niger State’s MSME sector. Attendees were able to purchase products directly from the entrepreneurs, providing them with much-needed exposure and sales opportunities.
Moreover, the exhibition was an excellent opportunity for businesses to promote their brand and expand their customer base within the local community. We were thrilled to see the enthusiasm and pride that local entrepreneurs took in presenting their products and services to the wider public.
A Vision for a Thriving MSME Ecosystem in Niger State
The 2024 International Women’s Day activities were just the beginning of our ongoing efforts to promote and support MSMEs in Niger State. At HESDInitiatives, we are committed to creating more opportunities for local businesses to grow, innovate, and thrive. We will continue to offer programs, workshops, and exhibitions designed to empower entrepreneurs and strengthen the MSME sector.
As we move forward, we envision a vibrant and diverse business ecosystem where women-led businesses are at the forefront of economic development in Niger State. Through continued advocacy, support, and education, we believe we can make this vision a reality.
